About The Role As Senior Node.js Developer, you’ll join an experienced, interdisciplinary engineering team responsible for developing, building, and operating Warhammer 40,000: Supremacy. You’ll work across a legacy PHP backend and a growing ecosystem of Node.js services designed to replace and modernize existing functionality. These services run on a distributed architecture in Google Cloud and support important game operations, including player data, live operations, and monetization. You’ll collaborate with game designers, product leads, and an internal Web API team to deliver reliable services and new game features. The broader technical environment includes a Unity client and a dedicated Java gameserver, offering opportunities to understand and contribute to a connected game ecosystem. • At least seven years of professional experience developing with Node.js and TypeScript, with strong coding, debugging, and engineering skills.
• Experience with Node.js and TypeScript frameworks and tools such as NestJS, Next.js, Express.js, Jest, or Mocha.
• Experience building or maintaining high-load, multi-server backend services and APIs.
• Familiarity with PHP and the ability to work with a legacy service while helping move functionality to a modern stack.
• Knowledge of SQL and NoSQL databases, such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or similar systems.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills and confidence working across disciplines.
• Experience using AI tools in development workflows, including coding, debugging, and technical research.
• A proactive approach to learning technologies outside your current area of expertise.
• Enthusiasm for games, ideally strategy games. Experience with Google Cloud, networking, distributed-system debugging, or Scrum is an advantage.
• Maintain and take ownership of the existing PHP metadata service, which supports stakeholders across game design, monetization, and other teams.
• Modernize metadata functionality by adopting Node.js services developed by the Web API team and helping shape the new service stack.
• Design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and improve dependable software with a focus on performance, scalability, security, stability, and maintainability.
• Build specialized Node.js services for Warhammer 40,000: Supremacy and contribute high-quality TypeScript code.
• Work with technologies including NestJS, Next.js, Jest, Mocha, GitHub, Docker, MySQL, Pub/Sub, Redis, and related tools.
• Partner with designers, product leads, and engineers to implement features and support the ongoing player experience.
